I am growing out of my rebel XSi fast. The FPS and AF accuracy are my main two gripes, followed by build quality. 12 megapixels is almost always more than enough, though I do tend to crop a lot. My main interests are wildlife (mostly birds), nature, and occasionally some airshows and sports. I use my 300mm f/4 L IS the most, by far. However, I really like the Sigma 8-16mm I recently got.
Given my current situation I see two viable options. One is to sell my XSi kit and accessories and get a 50D kit and accessories. The other is to keep the rebel and buy a 1D2n for my more action-type shots. That way I could keep the 300mm attached to the 1D2n and use the Rebel mainly for the 8-16 or a walkaround lens.
My main concern is that the 1D2n doesn't have some of the newer features like microadjust (my 300 front focuses a little on my XSi) and only has 8 or so megapixels. And from what I've read, the battery life isn't all that great. On the other hand, the 50D doesn't seem like all that much of an upgrade from the XSi. Sure it is faster and has better AF, but the gains don't seem to be as much as what I'd get from the 1D2n or a 7D.
The 7D would be a nice compromise, but it is just too much money. I mean I could sell my XSi kit and get a 7D but I wouldn't have money for another battery, a grip, and some decent UDMA cards. I tried one out at B*** B** and I liked it quite a bit. It has pretty much all of the features I want too (though I don't need 18 megapixels by any stretch). I suppose I could save up longer for one, but It is kind of a goal to have money for one of these by my birthday in 2 months. I wonder if the rumor that the 7D's price is going to be dropped is true...
What do you guys think? Sorry it dragged on a bit.
