Howdy all,
I recently was accredited to photograph the 72nd annual Valleyfield Regatta in Valleyfield Quebec.
I was basically given free reign, and as I had no specific client, I was free to do what I wanted and was free to let my creative juices flow.
I was told that I would have great access to the races and I would be able to get pretty close to the action, but to make worthwhile photographs of the event I would have needed a 400mm and a doubler. Needless to say, I didn't have a 400mm and a doubler.
Bummed out, I wanted to photograph something fun and a bit different, so I decided to spend the day in the pits, hobnobbin' with the mechanics and racers. I also decided to photograph the whole thing on one lens, a 16-35 f/2.8 on a 5dII, and shoot in black and white. I only with I had my 1V-HS and a brick of Tri-X!
What could have been a crappy day that ended way too early due to not having enough glass turned into a really fun day and a great chance to flex my gray matter and chat with some friendly folks.
If you'd like to see more photographs from the day, please go to www.timsnowphotography.com/regatta![]()
Any feedback or comments will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Tim in Montreal!
