Hi im looking at buying my 1st dslr camera ive been looking at the nikon d3000 and the canon eos1000d Im leaning more towards the canon at the moment. One thing i have noticed that in the U.K the package does not come with an is lens however in the U.S the rebel xs comes with an is lens why is this? And does it make that much of a difference the Is and non is lens

Are you sure? I didn't think that Canon still made the non-IS 18-55. It doesn't show up on Canon's USA site.

Yes, some retailers sell the XS with the old non-IS 18-55. Don't buy it.

It is much better to get the 18-55 IS because it is sharper, AND has Image Stabilization.

The IS version is the preferred version as it appears to be optically superior. I would consider buying the body only and then buying the IS version separately depending on the price difference.
