Wonderful series Bill, what is that bird walking on in the first shot? Love the black BG in this one. All very nice shots!

That background is the saltwater marsh at Merritt Island.
The marshes are subject to the tidal fluctuations. This is a wet area where the water has receded.

Thanks Eric;
I thought that it was a throw away shot till I looked at it on the computer when I got home. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it.

Nice. That tricolor looks like a very young bird to me. I've got to visit that area sometime soon. Agree about the heat. This has been the hottest summer for us I can remember. It started early and has never let up.

Great stuff Bill, glad to see they've opened things back up since my visit. That was disappointing to go all the way there and not have access. Timing is everything I guess, and a call ahead doesn't hurt either. :)

Thanks Karen;
The entrance to Peacock Pocket Rd. is about a quarter mile east of the visitors center.

Thanks Betty;
I think that it is a first year bird. Hope this means lots of activity in the next few years.

They have finished the work on Peacock Pocket rd. I think that Black Point dr is next. Hope they are done before cool weather.
