Well, mostly finished. I got it to the point where I felt comfortable testing it.

(those bits stuck to my arms are little pieces of double sided tape)

Total cost was $16.00 for aluminum tape since I already have the gaffers tape and cereal boxes. It's still got a few light leaks but thats a matter of tape and time, the best part is that its light, and when i can get some velcro, will attach using my existing honl straps!

Sadly everyone's asleep here so Im gonna have to wait for people pics, but here's some samples in the meantime of Canon the kitten:

Haha thanks, he actually seems to be pretty fond of his namesake. I should take a picture of my first attempt, total train wreck. Second time around I sat down and did templates in illustrator which made it a breeze (tho a bit time consuming) to get it all together right.

I must admit when I saw the first few pictures, I was skeptical!

The results are awesome! :D

Just for kicks you should do funny cut out shapes for the hell of it!

this is pretty sweet. How long did it take you to make this? I'd love to make something like this myself to play around with.

+1 very cool DIY Chris, I've been looking into a 3rd party RL but this might become my upcoming project this weekend. Is there a certain DIY you followed?

+1 on the funny shapes. I can imagine little mouse cutouts, or something similar as catchlights in cat's eyes.

I think that my wife (the cat person) is having an effect on me..
