I'm looking for a nodal slide and torn between the RRS and the Acratech model.

However, I need to be able to use this with a 70-200 lens and I just want to be sure that these plates will be physically long enough to use w/ those lenses as intended.

I realize I'll be clamping tripod collar plate to the sliding QR clamp. Just want to be sure.

I'm leaning towards the Acratech as I like the fact that the QR clamp swivels in 90* increments and has 2 indicator slides you can set to your most used lengths.

personally, i'd get the acratech.

what if you want to use a lens without a tripod colar? you couldn't really use the RRS one unless they started making L plates with a bi-directional dovetail on the portrait side (which i doubt will ever happen). this (external link) would be better than the RRS you chose. i still think i'd go with the acratech as it's half a pound lighter and looks like a much better design.

The ability of the Acratech to swivel 90* without needing other clamps is what is turning me to them.

yeah, i kind of feel like RRS dropped the ball on those designs. acratech's just makes so much more sense. with the RRS counterpart, you're stacking 2 clamps on top of each other on top of the slide rail. that raises it quite a bit higher than the acratech. i'm curious if it'll lose stability, which is why people buy RRS in the first place, right?

So aside from the clamp system, the acratech has the length to accommodate the 70-200 at various focal distances and still have room to slide back and forth to be at the nodal point of the given focal distance right?
