I just picked up the Canon 24-70mm F2.8L lens, and by itself it wont even fit in my camera bag, let alone attached to a camera body. So I think I should get a camera backpack, preferably the sort that will open at the top and slide the camera in with the lens attached. I plan to get the canon 70-200 F2.8 eventually also a tonika 11-16mm lens, so it would be nice if ti woudl be big enough to fit those as well. for now I will be putting in my 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 lenses, and preferably a couple flashes.

I thought someone here might be able to recommend from personal experience. Im going to google this now though.

I should have mentioned that since I just bought that 24-70 I dont have a ton of money to spend on this. I was hoping for something in the $50 range, but after doing some searching, it looks like most bags are $100+.

I also have a battery grip for the one camera, so hopefully the top loading bag will leave space for that.

on a side note, I want to turn my small suitcase into a camera mass storage case. Ive heard of people getting foam strips that you cut to size, but I do not have a clue where to buy that. That way I can put in all my flashes, 2 or 3 camera's, all my lenses, and a space for my wireless triggers, batteries, cards, etc, so they wont get damaged.

Check out the Tamrac Adventure series. I have the 7 and 9 models and they're one of the most useful things I've purchased.

Equipment: Canon 7D & 50D, Canon 70-200 F2.8, Sigma 120-400, Tamron 17-50 F2.8, Canon 50mm 1.8, 430EX II

I shoot bike races. I'm out wandering the area all day so I need lenses, batteries, flash, monopod, water, food, etc. I just use a regular old back pack and use the Styrofoam lens cases (like these (external link)) to keep me organized. Not exactly those, but you get the idea. In a semi-large backpack I carry 70-200mm f2.8, 300mm f2.8, 40D back up body, batteries, bottles of water, etc. On the outside are pockets for more water, or a small lens, maybe a rain jacket, or sometimes I strap my laptop on there. Is it heavy? Yah, you betcha, but it works out well.

I used several manufacturers before, one thing i will say is buy something that lasts and does the job the first time around....one thing I really hated about a lot of "backpacks" was their weight distribution. Finds that middle of your back and succcccks right inside it like a black hole. If you can - find a bag that will work well with your body shape is my advice. If possible try a few in a store.

props to this bag (external link)though...bloody lifesaver to have a bag that works for you rather than against you.

right now i'm using it with; a 70-200 2.8L, 85 1.2L, 21 2.8 zeiss, two 580exs, 100 2.8 macro and an assortment of lee and singh ray filters, 2 5D2s

Had to chuckle here. I'm surprised you didn't go for a Conan 70-200. ;)
