It's funny, almost all my friends get a new mobile phone every year by default... they by no means become attached to something so 'un-personal'.

I think a bit differently, for one.. I don't see a phone as un-personal, it's one of the most personal things I own, it connects me to thousands of personal moments in my life, both good and bad, and is often the closest contact I can get with some loved ones.

I also become strangely attached to all sorts of objects people normally throw out un-phased.
I bought my phone years ago second hand, I loved it! Anyway it's been all around the world with me, suffered trial by water, drops, scrapes, being thrown in anger, and a couple times.. being melted! I dread the day I have to replace it for a 'smart' phone.

Am I alone? Or do other people end up attaching themselves to mundane objects for years on end...

Oh, and here's the phone itself: (I like a story to a photograph :p)

in my lifetime (27years old now) I could count around 20phones already... lately though I don't buy new phones anymore, I just wait for my current phone to bust out on me before I look for another one. and oh I miss some good old phones...with keypad or keyboard, I like them compared to the touchscreen smart phones of today...

Man you weren't kidding around about it being a little beat up! I'd keep it until it died for sure, it's got tons of character.

I only update my cell when there's a definite benefit in doing so, I see to many people swapping phones and providers to get the latest and greatest the whole time getting hosed for breaking their contracts.

Wow...looks like some of my past phones after a few dozen job sites! I always like them better when they get like that. The people know its "my" phone!
