I just got my slightly used Gitzo Systematic in the mail! The build quality and construction are outstanding. I can't wait to put it to good use. It blows away my old tripod... what do you think?

I think that (a) your old tripod must have shrunk in the dryer and (b) you definitely need to start using your lens hood. ;)

Enjoy your new 'pod!

Thanks! It's the 3540XLS (older model of the 3541). Eye level with only three sections extended... 78" fully extended.

Haha. Yes, I remember using that little flexi-pod with my 5 megapixel P&S.

The ghosting isn't actually flare, it's condensation on the front lens element. It's about 120% humidity in Mississippi right now ;). I didn't bother to let the camera acclimate to the temperature after taking it out of my case...

I'm 6'-1" and I can stand underneath it fully extended. :D I'll probably only extend 3 sections 95% of the time. The fourth is great for architectural photography, or to get above a crowd, or if you're on a slope and your tripod is below you, etc... It's also good for an expedient tee-pee in case it starts raining... ;)

I think Gitzo makes a larger one that is almost 100" tall!!

I hope you use a remote shutter release! lol at least you have super extra height to play with. Double as a swing for your kids if you have? ;)

That is, if you find yourself close to a herd of buffalo you can hunt down and skin, or happen to find 50 sq. ft. of tarp in your shirt pocket. :D

The height will help with close up shots of the moon. LOL
