I took some shots at my kids' swim meets this week. They were all taken with my 75-300.. which provides adequate results at best. I'm still waiting for the new Sigma 70-200 OS :)

I kind of like the reflections I got in the water on the breaststroke.

C&C welcome.

Nice shots. The contrast is up there on a couple, but that can be hard to tame in direct sunlight.

I'll take a wild guess that butterfly isn't his favorite stroke. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I will take a look at the contrast before printing them for my kids.

Your right about the fly. When you are 10 years old, if you can swim fly legally, by default, you are your teams butterflyer.

I can't comment on the swimming but the composition, exposure, and clarity is quite good even if the contrast is getting heavy. That's a problem of the harsh lighting you're working with.

I particularly like #1 and #3 - great reflections. Nice job.

Thank you! I was surprised that the lighting cam out looking so harsh, the sun was low in the sky, right behind me (for the head on shots) as it turned out.

Some nice shots! Don't hesitate to crop to bring an evenness to the pictures. Also, a tight crop on kids swimming can bring a sense of action that a wider shot won't. When their little arms can't create the impression of speed, sometimes the water can do it for you on a tight crop.

Thanks for the advice. I still have a lot to learn about composition. I tend to prefer shots that are centered, but I hear so much on this board about thirds, that I tried to crop to that standard.. I like the idea of tight shots to improve the look of action. I have seen others here like that, that I like.

I am having fun with the kids' summer swim season, though I really can't wait to get a 70-200 f/2.8. Here are some more that I took at a subsequent meet, trying to incorporate some of the feedback received on the first set:
