I have just been on Amazon.com ordering stuff for our Sicilian holiday. I have ordered:

  • Sicily (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides)

  • Rough Guide Map Sicily

  • Cavalleria Rusticana

  • and The Godfather parts I, II & III

Syracuse has tons of Greek and Roman architecture....lots of old churches....if you like to shoot historic sites....there is plenty there to take advantage of...Mount Etna isn't far....you might get treated to an eruption....and you should be there for the best weather of the year.

I have been doing the standard web searches, Etna is definitely going to happen. It looks like this was a really important region for both the Greeks and the Romans so there is a load to see and do. It also looks like quite an exciting coastline to dive off so boredom should not feature too highly on the vacation agenda :-)

Ah ha! So this is a dive vacation thinly veiled as a romantic getaway......once again:lol:

People tend to knock GF III, but I enjoyed it. It is not as great an epic as GF II but they use the music from Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria rusticana" which is one of my favorite operas, for that long end scene in the opera house and even though Sofia Coppola is not the best actress in the world I think it is great :-)

Been a long time since I was last there....but it was a much nicer area of Italy than Rome or Naples.
