I love the way weber's indirect cook. Coal on one side, food on the other.

Yeah me too.

Lou.

I picked him up today from one of the shelters about an hour away. They called us because his time was up and he was 'too sweet to kill'.

He is a hound in all ways except one. His body shape, temperament, and VOICE are all hound, but his coloring is Catahoula.
What a gorgeous, sweet boy.

I was going to bring him here, but to save my sanity one of our volunteers took him in for a few days. Hopefully we get a few of ours adopted on Saturday. :)

This is beautiful.

Woot! The secondary benefit is in the few minutes that the paper gets started that smoke cloud clears the skeeters. Having seen 3 huge bucks behind my house the other day venison is strong on the mind. Enjoy your dinner.

It was good, but even better was sitting out on the torch lit deck just enjoying the sounds of a late summer evening. Though I did get bit on the side of my butt in the final moments before remembering this is a work evening. *sigh* p.s. check your text when you get out side and it comes through.

I'm a fan of those charcoal chimneys. Been using them for years. No more chemical residue for me. Use to burn them up in a season until I found the stainless steel ones. Those last forever.

gjl711 wrote in post #10753462 (external link)
Hey Zane.. I got the same one.

That is what I got, though I don't fill it that full on the kettle.

Tonight there were issues. Did not realize the residual coals/ash on the coal grid were wet. Once I pushed them through the grid, added new paper, and lit, all was ready post haste.

update:
Head is stuffed. coughing. Feel cruddy. (no more barfing though so that's good) Have rendezvoused with Nettie 2x already today.

TERRI! MORE PURPLE AIR!

Didn't know about the barfing. Sending clean line dried sock air, too.

Definitely the way to go with charcoal.

As much as purists will say otherwise, grilling with gas is not so bad. If you want smoke flavour, I just use a smoke box. I do this a lot less now that I have a smoker though. I grill over the coals of a fire all the time. Last Saturday, it was pork tenderloin on a stick. It was very yummy.

Wood chips are a must when ever I grill. They get soaked before the fire is lit.

short5 wrote in post #10753465 (external link)
Gas is cleaner, easier, more controlable, and healthier given the concerns of eating charcoal grill cooked food. Gas grilled food is slightly less smokey tasting.

Lump charcoal makes big wood embers. It is just burnt wood. It can be a bit hotter and faster so trickier to control but I like it.

The first one in this link, Cowboy Coal, is what the local vendor has. It says to use less, but I went more less, all was OK though as I just added more when I dumped the chimney.

Go for it Chet. Just hang back on the HD processing, you'll do fine.

As to a grill..... we are grill less. I finally convinced hubby that we need a Traeger though!!!! He said we would get one next year when we are settled in one spot. Really don't want to transport one of those everywhere we go.

Not knocking Traeger at all, but at the fair last week was vendor that had THESE (external link)and also sells Traeger. He "says" for the price($200 less), it is every bit as good as the Traeger. But consult T.D. and Cat before going by "hear say/sales pitch".

Doing ok. How is life in the Holladay house?

Ok for the most part. Just finished a semester with a "B", last week. Tomorrow starts the fall semester; 4 hours of Stats and 3 hours of Calculus. I am looking forward to December of, wait for it, ............... 2014.

Eli is doing well.

Noah & Makayla are doing well.

My Grandmother celebrates her 95th birthday Saturday.

So all in all, all things are great.

Oh yeah, I planted a fleur garden with the intent of drawing butterflies, bumbles & hummers so that I could shot them. Thing is the garden is beautiful, the butterflies visit along with the bumbles, and I have seen a hummer once or twice. The other thing, I have not shot them. As a matter of fact the 40d has not been out of the bag in a couple of months.

Pictures or it didn't happen.

Those grills look nice. I did not see anything about made in USA. There is a certain draw to a good 'ole Oregon built grill.
