Sounds like you need a cat! We aren't supposed to have pets here either, more than 50% of the building has cats and I've had the general manager of the complex in here when Pucky was alive. He was all over her and she was smitten!! He LOVED when company came over, was like a dog running up and waiting for pets.

Cats are nice, but i need a doggy :D

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Oh, I'd sooooooooooo take a dog off cat's hands. Wife wants another malamute, and I'd love a border collie.

But we rent, no animals allowed. Can't buy - I haven't lived long enough in the US to be considered for a mortgage, so we're stuck renting, and the cost is overly stupid in boston for rent. So lots of money pissed away lining someone else's pockets, can't buy either, and if we move and rent a place that allowed pets, we'll be coughing up $100 a month more on top :( So, we're in a super, sucky, situation :(

booo!

That's sucky. :(

You need to move to another state Harm...one of my friends is a mortgage broker...said he knows of no requirement for you to have lived in the US for any certain length of time to qualify for a mortgage.

It isn't "another state"...It is my credit score and history. The US doesn't bother taking my (or other people's) UK credit score and history - which is outstanding.

So when I moved over to the US, my wife and I were married for more than 2 years, so I could immediately move over with a permanent resident card. So my credit score in the US at that point was 0. There was no record of me anywhere. The real bummer is that if I was in the US as a non-permanent resident - i.e. with a working visa, the banks would allow people to have a non-permanent resident credit card. A regular credit card, with a much lower limit. But since I came in as a permanent resident card, I was refused that one.

So it took about 2.5-3 years before my wife could get me onto one of her accounts jointly, so I could then get a credit card earlier this year. Now i use it once or twice a week for lunch and pay it off regularly, to build up my credit.

All other "store cards" that are supposed to be easy to get - In the past I've been refused, and the more times you apply, the more it goes on your record....so once again, a super, sucky, situation.

So talking with my bank manager - who is very nice and upfront with me, it isn't that my record is an issue, it is just that the length of time of my history is not long enough. So all mortgage lenders wouldn't touch me with a 12ft barge pole, esp with tightened regulations now.
