I was taught the correct pronunciation in, of all places, the US Navy...

How about this one: "Tackle" as used in a nautical connotation...

the banks of a river in the UK in the cities are known as quays (keys). hence you get the quayside...and further to that, you get lots of bars and streets called Quayside dotted about the UK.

we're too complex to call it a riverside ;)
