I’m looking for a circular polarizing filter for my Canon 24mm T/S II, and could use some feedback about the following three:

Tiffen 82mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Glass Filter

B+W 82mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Glass Filter

B+W 82mm Circular Polarizer Filter
• Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC)
• Slim Design

I generally use B+W filters, but have been told that the new Tiffen Digital HT is very good, as it should be with a price tag nearly $100 higher than the other two. The slim design B+W has no front filter threads or I would probably go with it. I don't know how good the B+W push-on filter caps are, nor whether the cap would interfere with removing and replacing the lens hood. The other B+W is a little thicker than the Tiffen from what I can gather, and I'm not sure if that would be a problem with vignetting when the lens is shifted/tilted to the extreme positions.

I have used Hoya polarizing filters in the past, but the last two that I purchased came apart in less than a year of light use. So they are off my list. I don’t have experience with any other brands, but am open to suggestions.

Thanks, Mary

I have the B+W 82mm F-Pro KSM CPL and use it on my 16-35 II on a 5D. You dont need the slim, I tried that version first and compared the two and noticed no vignetting difference, but the slip on cap on the slim is a real pain! If you already know and love B+W filters I suggest you go with the one I got, its just as great all all my other B+W filters.

Really? I agree the slip-on cap sucks, but I've tried a regular size B+W on this lens and it indeed does vignette.

The problem with Tiffens is that they might never come off -- or need tools to do it. On the 24mm, you don't need slim, so avoid it (caps REALLY suck).

I just ordered myself the slim B+W 82mm Circular Polarizer Filter for my 16-35 and 21ZE. I'm not sure how much I'll use it, so I'm not paying 2-3x for it.

^I agree. A standard size CPL vignettes but, on a thin mount it doesn't.
