I went out to the ranch lands south of Orlando yesterday.
Driving along the rural roads we sighted several Swallow-tailed kites.

No 1 Swallow-tailed Kite having lunch on the wing

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/image/126782913.jpg

No. 2 Swallow-tailed Kite pair soaring together
IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/image/126801612.jpg

No. 3 Swallow-tailed Kite with what appears to be a small bird
IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/image/126801637.jpg

No 4
IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/image/126801733.jpg

The last two images are back lighted and are heavy crops, but I liked the behavior that they illustrated.

Thanks for looking.

Bill

Well done Bill, I've never seen these birds myself. Love that first image, great title.

Thanks Levina, and Steve;
It's very interesting to watch them catch and eat their meals on the wing. That's a new version of fast food takeout.

Thanks Judy;
This was the first time I had seen them with food in flight.

Nice shoots! These are some of the most amazing birds to watch in flight with the way they seem to be able to glide forever. Love #1

Great series. I saw a grackle chasing one of these guys today. Wish I could get some shots of them.

Nice going, Bill. While visiting that area earlier this year, I saw a number of these beauties but only got distant shots once. I'll be back.

Thanks Betty;
They are such magnificent birds, they are a pleasure to watch in action.

I hope to find a spot where they are nesting. Otherwise you are just limited to a random fly by.

Super work on these Bill. These remind me of the one that glided about 10 feet above my car on my drive into the Everglades this spring. Such cool birds.

There's a lot of these birds in the Everglades Park near the Flamingo Marina area. Saw quite a few of them there but was never able to get any shots of them.

Thanks Steve;
We would stop along the road when we saw one overhead and occasionally we would get a a few shots before they were out of range.
