... I'll be voting against the grain , but I suggest #1... and maybe if it doesn't work, then #2.

Can I spread this around the Internet? She replied - and took it down immediately - but she said that she got it from a site full of free avatars... Now I gotta go chase that down. Harumph.

Well I'm glad I went with #1 and not #2. She was very understanding and removed it immediately.

She replaced it with another wolf (not mine), and it's hot-linked again. Time for some detective work....

Well that was anti-climatic. I wanna see lawsuits, a smear campaign, and severe punishment. ;-)a

If, once you've sleuthed it out, would you post it? There may be others who find some of their work on there without permission.

And while I was pulling for #2, I think that your steps produced the proper outcome.

Sorry to be such a let-down. She did the right thing after a wrong thing. The immediacy saved her - if she had read and ignored it I woulda embarrassed her but good.

As to the "free avatar site" Google finds nothing, and grep'ing my copious access logs shows nothing. Maybe I caught it in the nick of time?

Strange that she got it from a free avatar site though. Both my avatar and her current one are hot-linked...

By the way, anyone care to test if my anti-hotlink worked?

I googled "free avatars" and turned up a good page of sites... I've never understood that, how one person can google something and find nothing, and others can google the same thing and get results.

Hrm...

Well, unless I'm doing something wrong, it seems to work.

Glad you had the theft sorted out, Scott.

I do beg your pardon....no offense intended, and not at all sure why you're jumping on me. But it's all good...

I was thinking that maybe you were looking for the site she got it from...thus, a free avatar site would provide a potential clue, or even get you to the site where she linked it from.

My search returned these sites...

Again, no offense intended...

Thanks

I was able to hotlink it from my 2 domains. It was not in browser cache.

If you've got a spare browser or computer that has never displayed the avatar (therefore not in cache), I've made a page to try it out: http://www.deaddogparty.com/hotlink.html (external link)

I vote for number 2 but the message should read something like: "Trish wets the bed" or something else really funny, slightly embarrassing and utterly harmless.

Thanks for stopping in and having a look.

She is going to get a sudden education.

How about substituting a graphic that says "Trish is a pig."

I would've changed my avatar for one containing tubgirl... don't google that phrase at work btw.
