Like the title says, I am looking for something non-obtrusive that would help my compact camera float if I drop it in the lake. Waterproof cameras are nice, but a lot of good it does you if your camera sinks to the bottom! :)

Something with closed cell foam such as several "floating keychains" or small plastic pill bottles that are sealed up with glue. Duct tape them to the strap and test float them at home.....

In the UK you can buy key fobs for boat owners, a ball of cork, I guess about the size of a base ball, with a rope and split ring. So if you drop your keys overboard they float.

Pick up a boating keychain. They are less than $10 and have a key ring that fits on the wrist strap and keep them afloat.

Canon 40D and more lenses than my wife knows about...

Try this neat little DIY item from instrustables. Probably a little larger than you would like but I thought it was a great idea!

Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?" ???

LOL if you want a cheap and quick soultion to this poblem try this, its what I do in the same situation.

Try a gatorade bottle! They make small 8oz plastic bottles. I open the cap (drink the gatorade and rinse out) then you can lay the camera lanyard back in the bottle a bit and screw the cap down over it. Voila! A relativly small and cheap and excellent flotation key fob.

Good Luck.
