AUTO mode => Dont know, dont care. Use 'P' mode instead. Wheel works as 'exposure compensation' in P mode
Memory Card : SD/SDHC Class-4 above (though strictly not needed) will do.
Extra Battery :- Nice to have. One charge lasts about 250+ shots.

I just checked and the wheel does nothing when the camera is set to Auto.

You'll need to either use a card reader and Explorer or Canon's software. The CR2 file type isn't recognized by Microsoft's software as an image type, so it ignores the files.

Thanks for your reply. I just found out that it was a setting mistake on my part. I set it on L+RAW via the main menu, but I had to do it via the func set button. doh :p

Dont wear it out before you give it as a present.

I received it today and really liked using it. The results are pretty good as well :)

But of course there has to be something that doesnt work instantly... :p How do you get RAWs off the camera?

Card reader and Windows Explorer?

Or Card reader and LR?

Did you load all the supplied Canon software? If you didn't, most operating systems won't recognize RAW file formats which are proprietary rather than standard image file formats like JPEG. If you don't want to use Canon's software and you don't have a third-party application that supports the S90, you will need to go the card reader route (which is faster anynhow).

What photo editing software are you using? If you have none by all means use the Canon supplied Digital Photo Professional (DPP) It will automatically correct lens distortions when shooting raw as well.

Photoshop.
I read about that DPP earlier, thanks for mentioning it :)

You're welcome. IMO and many others DPP's the best software and raw converter to get you up and running with the S90.

Here's a weird question: Why give a camera like the S90 to a person that isn't going to take advantage of what it can do, when a significantly less expensive camera would do just as well?

And another: Why use something that you're going to give as a gift?

Just confused!
