This was my first airshow with the 100-400. I really enjoyed it but it's been a hell of a job to sift through the masses of shots I took! Here's a selection of my best, trying also to get something slightly less usual here and there.

1. The huge Airbus A380 is so big it lifts straw and dust other aircraft cannot reach!

2. This year the B-52 flew over the correct airfield.

3. Shiny detail.

4. Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

5. Lancaster taking off.

6. Red Devils parachute display team.

7. A beautiful Catalina.

8. The Red Arrows lining up for a break.

The parachute threesome is my favourite. Good saturation and well caught.

Really nice photos. It's been a long time since I attended Farnborough.
The wrong airfield is far from the worse error that I have seen at an air show. In the late 70's at a Shuttleworth Collection show at Old Warden they had a Buccaneer opening the show. The aircraft was unable to contact the tower so the pilot simply opened the show with a flat out (probably about .8 Mach) downwind pass at 200'. Somehow someone got the conversion from Zulu to BST wrong, so he was actually one hour early. Fortunately the Cessna on finals was only at about 25' so just suffered a very heavy landing and probably a very brown trouser moment.

So that's why I've never seen a B-52 at, or flying over, any of the airshows I've been at. They always go to the wrong airfield, eh?

Seriously, I'm 61 years old, been in the military for close to 40 years, been to many airshows, and I've never seen a B-52 in flight or even taxiing on the ground. Is that bad luck or what?

Bob

Some really cool stuff there, hope you like the "pump" :)

The spectators in the foreground of the Airbus shot really help give some perspective on the mass of that beast :)

And I really like the Red Arrows shot, as well.

The A380 is a really big girl. If you ever get a chance to get up close. The dimensions of her size will really stun you.
