Looks nice for use umbrella adapter for even folks not using eTTL.

Are these specifically desgined for a particular flash or they can take most canon/nikon ones?

The umbrella mount is great, puts the flash pretty much dead center, and is quite solid.

I'd have to guess they're designed to take just about every canon and nikon speedlite (within reason) since a lot of the cuts, like the one for adjusting the flash head, aren't very precise.

How well does the external battery pack connection work?
Looks like it may be a little tight getting the cable around the flash.

Well, according to this poster, the Yongnuo SF-18 external battery pack is not compatible with the AC7:

That's a bummer.
How can they get something like that wrong.
Especially after it taking so long for them to get to market.

I like the umbrella mount. Was hoping that it would work as a umbrella-Speedlite mount while getting the benefit of the shield as well.

I just got mine yesterday and i'm disappointed to announce the AC7 is NOT compatible with Canon's own external Batt pack. I'm amazed at this over sight. It's taken so long for this product to be released, it even looks as though they have designed a space for it. I tried over and over with the 580EX and the 580EXII. It feels like i could damage the pins on the hot shoe if i forced the issue.

Bit of an update since I thought I'd share a modification that I had an impulse to try at 3am. I was sitting here playing with different bits at my desk and took a look to see if there was any new info on this supposed cable coming from PW. Realizing that it would be another cord to forget/lose, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and out came the Dremel.

IMAGE: http://acidfire.ca/forums/ac7/AC7_Battery_Mod-1.jpg

The dremel made short work of it. I took my time cutting in, forgetting that the cord faces forward.
(Side note, Reinforced Cut Off Wheels cut through these things like a hot knife through butter)

The thing is actually pretty damn sturdy even without the reinforced chunk that I cut out. I still need to finish the edges a bit, but I'm happy with the results.

awesome mod. such an oversight that PW didn't take into account that people would have the need to plug in a battery pack.

Have you noticed that the firing is much more consistent with the new shield? or did you purchase the shield for extra range.

Man, don't these folks (PW) test things before releasing?

Testing only slows down production so it's frowned upon in today's world of disposable products.

That's what the MBA types will say. That is why the whole country (US in this case) is going down the tube.

The other alternative to the AC7 shield is to just do the RF Interference Reducing Mod for the 580EX II, and then be done with it.
