I like it. The iris is nice how it really stands out. I wish I could see more of the eyelashes though, if the focal plane had been back just a bit farther.

=)

Me too. I was just messing around with tethered shooting trying to figure it out, not planning on keeping any of the results, just practicing. I'm guessing maybe a deeper DOF would have helped, but without a flash it was tough to get the right light.
Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!

Been watching a lot of classic silent movies lately and thought I'd try my hand at some dramatic lighting. I'm very pleased with the results, especially with this being my first self-portrait.

Took very minimal tweaking in Lightroom, mainly a bit of added contrast and slight desaturation. This was about the 24th take and 6th lighting change (LED flashlight from the front and smaller incandescent flashlight for the back light). It can be surprisingly tricky to hold perfectly still for 1.6 seconds!

Classic silent movies with strong chiaroscuro lighting? Hmmm...G.W. Pabst?

Good guess! The last movie I watched was Pandora's Box. :)

Wow! I like that a lot. I'm usually not too excited by dial in effects and such, but to me that is really striking.

Thanks pal! Appreciate it. It wasn't too hard to do though so that sucks, but I thought it looked pretty neat. :)

That aint a lame action - looks really cool! :)...is it one you wrote?

Here's one from today - I know everyone does one of these at some point and can get kinda lame...but I just did it since I took delivery of the 70-200 2.8L IS II & 17-55 - renting them for the weekend!!

Damn the 70-200 it's an AWESOME lens - weighs a frickin ton though - never believed it when others said it...but it really is a heavy piece of glass! Add the weight of the 580 as well and it's serious arm ache!! :D Gonna be crippled after Sunday!

...oh and the IS is to die for!! ;)

Use a grip, it'll be way better for your arm. You will not have to twist like that ;)

Cool - I'll be looking that action up!

The lens (the new version) is frickin awesome dude! Never had an IS lens and this one IMHO is too nice for words! Managed to get sharp shots at 1/10 @ 200mm (no flash) ...so wish I could keep it beyond the weekend! :(
