excuse my possibly noob questions but what is it?

It's a Color Checker Passport. You use it to calibrate the color of your camera and if you like your lenses.

You create a color profile specifically for your camera and then select it when converting RAW files. At first I didn't know what it was for and then I used it and was amazed how much vibrance it restored to my photos.

Haha.. Awesome!!

I set up my photo for my 365 on the table - using the window light(Love window light...) Then took a self-portrait of myself with this thing I got from a friend... Was trying to find my focus spot(while hand-holding the camera...) and happened to get this. Yes, its not the *perfect* photo, but my hair is down and curly(I barely have any photos of me and my curls mainly because I think they look bad) and I think my eyes(well, eye, since my left eye is clearly to dark) are wonderfully brown.
I WILL be using some window light for my 52 Weeks... :P

You'r work is absolutely superb, i'm sure you know that though, very inspiring, how you get the lighting so perfect for self portraits amazes me, I always fail =[I finally tried some eye popping.

The colour is really off in this photo.

Naturally I can't say about the color, but your eyes certainly do pop! Very nice.
