Sam I Am - Baby photo CC gratefully appreciated

Hello,
I lurk a lot, but rarely post. However; I am very much wanting to stretch and grow. I am a near total beginner at photography (as in anything going beyond full auto mode) but I love it and harbour dreams of making it a much bigger part of my life and hopefully one day having some professional involvement. Right now though the goal is to learn learn learn, technique and art both. My short term goal is to start getting pictures that go beyond the snapshot stage to the "something more" stage.
Here are a couple of recent captures in which I was trying to get something of my little man's personality (he's a soulful dude with a silly side).

He is adorable!!

Your WB is way off (to yellow) but it corrects right up in LIghtroom... the first picture is cute but having him in the corner like that throws my eyes off with the different angles in the boards. If you crop it up and get rid of the floor area (yes it does crop off some of the drum) it looks much better.

Try just against a 'flat' wall without the corner

Same with #2, WB is off....once again the boards/corner is very distracting.

So far so good! I thought the corner a bit distracting as well.

I took a stab at trying to edit it for you. I fixed the white balance as best as I could with the jpeg. Cropped it to try to lessen the corner distraction. Sharpened a touch and used curves a bit.
I think you are off to a good start. And since your model is so cute, it should be easy to make some great pics

Thanks for the feedback! I'll have to figure out how to calibrate my monitor, and then I'll fix up the white balance on all my shots. I'll give some time to trying new crops and try some new shots too, without the corner.

Thanks so much for taking time to edit! I will do some practice editing now based on what you've done here. Thanks too for explaining what factors you edited, so I know what to work with.
Yes indeed, he is very cute, (says the totally unbiased mom) and I will have fun trying to improve my photography with him as a model.

Sorry, but I have to say it, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner".
Just kidding. I do think the WB is off in the first shots, but I like them better than the edits. Something is up with the hair in the edits. Look's milky.

The warm tones definitely look better than the baby in a freezer. The yellow cast is probably light reflecting off the wood but I don't think it's that bad. Excellent composition and I like the additional props.

way cute, These would look nice in black and white, I see a WB prob, the wood in the background would be to blame, easy fixed though

Here's my try. If I had a larger file to work with it would be clear.
