I'm not sure that my copy of canons 100 x 400 L lens is up to par . Is there a test or something that I can do to determine this ? I've looked at many different images from this lens online and some of the shots seem so very clean and crisp .... I'm not able to achieve this level of clarity in my photos ...... Is it my limited knowledge ? or is it the lens ??? your help would be greatly appreciated ...

Post up some of your photos.

Understand, most of the photos posted on here have editing done to them... Colors, contrast, unsharp mask, etc... Many (including myself) do not like the results straight out of camera, most of the time.

I find the 7D JPEG's to not be that impressive. Shoot RAW and edit in lightroom and see how much better the images turn out. I shoot RAW+JPEG's just to have quick viewing, but always shoot edit all the RAW and export to JPEG's.

Yes I understand that some the photos have been processed , however you still cannot take a photo that isn't clear to begin with and make it crisp ( at least I haven't ) ....I'm looking for some type of standard test to tell if its my lens or me ???

You don't know how to resize them? Photoshop? Save for web.

You'll need to resize the image first then use "save for web".

Or open up an online album and upload them, then provide the links to those images here.

Save image as 800-900 on the longest side, then save out with JPG compression around the 7 or 8 mark to get it under 150kb in size. That should be large enough to look at, and should also retain the EXIF that will be needed to figure out your diagnosis.

I think it's a bit too early to play around with that setting yet.

Yeah.

Larry, make sure there is no filter on the lens, then post up a shot with exif data so we can help.
