I am at the Tazzaria (external link) coffee shop as I write this. They have a free public access computer with a broadband connection. I check up on POTN when I'm here.

Martook James, the owner, said he will happily fix you up with the coffee you described. He said that that the beans are individually ground for each cup of coffee and the method of brew is "pour over". You get to choose from the many beans and roasts that Tazzaria has.
Thank all you guys for the kind words. Well back to my coffee and a visit with my daughter :-)

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.

Haha, sweet place! There isn't a single good coffee shop in my town, which is really sad. It's actually so annoying that I've considered quitting my job and starting my own place, but there is no good place to have it. Also, I'm poor. :)

Tell James a big thanks from me, and I'll be sure to go there when I visit USA. Haven't got a clue when that'll happen though, so he better stay in business a long time! :)

Skip, thanks for sharing these photos. I am a coffee lover and the second line in my sig attests to that. I must say, I nearly spat out my coffee when I saw the fourth picture. That really is hilarious!

Martook, that Vietnamese style of brewing coffee is indeed something to be experienced. have you tried their cafe sua da? It is basically the same cup brewer, but it drips into a glass of ice and condensed milk. Pleasantly soothing, it really goes down extremely well on a hot summer day. Ah, Vietnamese cuisine never ceases to amaze me.

Bikerider (fellow cyclist?), I agree with you that Lavazza is one of the better commercial coffee brands out there. Another one is Illy, get some if you can. Neither of these however can compete with a local roaster, particularly one that roasts on the premises. The secret of grteat coffee is to start with good beans, freshly roasted and degassed for at least half a day, and ground up just before brewing. I roast my beans myself - it's a lot easier than it seems - and I use a popcorn popper, the type that you can buy at a thrift shop for $3.

Skip, thanks for sharing your pics, they made my day!

I didn't try it unfortunatly, after I had some condensed milk in a regular cup of coffee, I stayed away from everything that contained it. I am a sweet tooth, but I have a limit... =)
Tell me about it! In Hanoi (which is the most beautiful city in the world if you ask me) the people working at the hotel I stayed at invited me to their table on the sidewalk in a threeway corner (lots of traffic). I just happened to walk by one evening when they were out eating some dinner. They ate hotpot, which is soooo nice! One of the best meals I've had, and the people are very friendly. Man, I could go on about this for a long time, I just loved Vietnam.

Anyway... I'm going to have a look at in town asap and see if I can find any good sorts of coffee, I think a small place selling coffee and tea opened up while I was out travelling around the world, hopefully they have something good!

Thanks Leo. The mug is my favorite also. :p
I do believe that you are right about the French method of brewing coffee. Vietnam was called French Indo-China for a long time and Siagon was known as the Paris of the Orient. Of course when I was there it was just a dirty G.I. town
