I like to think of this as a representation of Hope

I would like to like this image. But my mind can't quite get wrapped around the appearance of the tree out of, seemingly, nowhere. Even on my oh-so-bright monitor, it isn't clear where the tree is rooted.

I agree, looks like this image has so much potential but the elements just are not adding up. I don't know... maybe it does work. I like the whats in it at least. The light on the tree maybe throwing a hook in it because it is lighting just a small portion and throwing the balance of the image of.

Great name for some mountains.

Thanks for taking a look. I would not classify this as a typical landscape and it is intentionally more intepretive, so i can understand that it may not resonate with everyone.

Nice image Darren, I understand what you've tried to convey but I'm unsure of the tree as well, it doesn't fit with the overall mood of the shot. Other than that I think it's a cracker of a shot. I used to drive past them every day going to work when we lived up at Maleny and your shot really does remind me of them being dark and brooding in the afternoon rainy gloom. I'm surprised you weren't fogged in up there in my old stomping ground!

Hey Lloyd, I can see your point but if I did not light the tree it would be a dark indistinguisable blob and that is not really how I felt about it. When I look at that tree I want it to stand out, the warm tones of the tree struggling against the cool tones of the elements to me offers contrast, the light (HOPE) verses dark (ADVERSITY), the relative small size of the tree compared to the vast expanse yet in the image it conquers this adversity and appears tall and triumphant despite it's fragile frame.

That may sound like dribble but it is hopefully an insight into my vision behind the shot.:)

Cheers Darren:)

I really like this image. It conveys a sense of solidarity, the tree alone against an oncoming storm ravishing an otherwise barren landscape. The panoramic crop makes this image work in my opinion.

Keep up the great work.

John

Maybe pop the flash at the ground/base of the tree as well... that would fix it, me thinks.

I like the shot, btw.

I really like this. The lighting on the tree just brings it out and makes the tree special. Great 1/3 as well.

I totally agree, to me the tree makes the shot.

I wanted to get it closer todd, but that put my radio transmitter out of range as it was sitting behind the ridge and the flash wouldn't fire

I really like the mountains and the 'gloomy" feel to the shot until I get to the tree.. It just looks out of sorts with it being lit up and nothing else is. If the lighting went furthur then the tree it might work a little more. All in all I do think you have a nice shot.
