Maybe. I had occasion to speak to PCB customer service earlier today. Not relevant to my reason for calling but purely out of curiosity, I asked if there might be an updated ETA for the V2 PLMs. Contrary to the recent rosy predictions of PCB himself, the rep I spoke with said there were new problems with the fabric supplier (both white and silver) and that best guess now is that ALL V2 PLMs are probably 6-8 weeks away. Of course, there is the possibility that the customer service rep didn't know what she was talking about. However, if true, this PLM saga is either very humorous or very sad depending upon your point of view.

Back on March 8, I wrote on this forum:

"Too bad the v2 PLM is ALWAYS 6 weeks away "

Was I right, or was I right?

*Sigh*

It's a shame because the 84" silver has grown on me and I wanted to play with some of the other sizes/combinations.

Why am I not surprised?

I do wonder when the feeling of being lied-to/toyed-with/bull$%*@ed will eventually change the popular sentiment of Paul being so "honest/trustworthy/up-front" with his customers.

In the business world, I'm a big fan of under promising and over-delivering. I don't think Paul shares that sentiment.

I ordered in June... I hope they at least maintain a queue. I emailed yesterday to ensure that fact.

Okay, so what is a good adapter to mount 3-4 speedlites to this baby?

Haha. Neither am I. I've given up. I always wanted one. I guess you could say I used to lose sleep over it. But I don't care anymore. Like Dave said, it's always freakin' 6-8 weeks away. No matter what product, it's always the same ETA. As someone who reads POTN and FM lighting forums, I've really grown tired of seeing "6-8 weeks". It should be PCB's slogan, "All backorders are always 6-8 weeks away. So stop asking, damn you!"

We're going to be seeing other para type umbrellas and modifiers and personally I don't see the PLM as being anything special. Not one person has really shown anything to make me go "ooooooh" or think "I've got to get one of those".

I've seen a lot of pics showing coverage or giving readings to show efficiency of the umbrella but I'm not hearing or seeing anything to indicate this is some sort of magical modifier or one with characteristics to amaze, as it's hyped.

I have a 81" on order and have for a very long time. I can wait the 6-8 weeks but that needs to be the max at this point.

I have a 64" to hold me over. Ordered the large v2.

But the 6-8 week thing is hysterical.

Back when I was dating my wife and she would ask me about getting engaged my response finally was "2 years. And rhe next time you ask me it will be 2 years."

Little did she know u bought the ring already. Maybe Buff is about to release these. One can hope.

At least your wife isn't counting on Buff or waiting on a PLM. :D

for the procrastinators among us... Just tell people that you'll get around to it (whatever "it" may be) once PCB no longer has anything on backorder. It sounds less antagonistic that the other place freezing over, but gives the same basic time frame to work in. ;)

Interesting way to create a public image for a company or as we used to say Brand Identity.

The PLMs are *very* special in at least one regard, Rob, they're dirt cheap and I think that's at least part of their allure. They're priced in impulse purchase territory, you know, like the candy bars you pick up while standing in line waiting for the cashier at the supermarket.

In all seriousness, though, some nice work has been produced with the PLMs. This set, shot almost exclusively with a PLM, has generated quite some buzz over on FM:

Could this set have been shot as well with a different modifier? No doubt. But it wasn't. It was shot with a $60 or $70 PLM. Pretty good argument for giving them a try.
