Hi, I just took some test shots of the 24L that I just received today and it seems it is front focusing about 2mm based on the informal focus chart test shots.

Focus on the very top of the pear's stem

Pictures above are CROPPED, all taken past the minimum focusing distance.

Also tried this on lines of text. The line below the focused line of text was actually in focus.

Also, let's not get into the focus chart debate of what are the best preparations, i.e. distance, angle, etc. I have taken it at varying angles and distances and it seems to be front focusing in some amount, roughly 2mm when about 1-1.5 ft away.

Is the 2mm worth sending it to the service center? Also, what about the stories regarding people getting theirs back worse than before?

Photography is like women, they're both expensive to support and you'll never completely understand them.

If your camera has Micro Adjust abilities then that level of front focus is nothing to be concerend about. If your camera is older and doesn't have MA, and you intend on using the lens with narrow apertures (ie 5.6 or higher) then the large depth of field is likely to hind it (ie your subject will still stay in focus). I would only send it in if your camera body does not support MA, and you intend on using the lens largely wide open.
