Raw codec 1.7

I've recently purchased a new pc running windows 7 ( 64bit ). The problem i've since run in to is that canon dont have a 64 bit raw codec driver. I emailed Canon who stated what i already knew, that they didn' t have a driver available. They also said they didn' t whether they had any plans to supply one in the future. Anyone know if there is a way around this problem ?

Does the 32Bit one not work?

Many 32Bit applications will work on a 64Bit OS too.
(As it not a true 64Bit OS)

no, 64bit explorer requires 64bit codecs, just like 64bit windows will require 64bit drivers. applications can be 32bit.

Some 32Bit drivers do work on 64Bit OSes too - not all do though.

Some people over at http://forum.notebookr​eview.com/ have gotten 32Bit drivers to work on a 64Bit OS.

One aspect is that at least Vista isn't a pure 64Bit OS, and as far as I am aware Win7 isn't either.
Its worth a try.

I have an AFT Pro 35u card reader. There is a driver that allows you to have icons for the different drives (SD, CF, MS, etc). It is 32 bit only, but you can manually install the driver and it works (or it did with my Vista install). When I installed Win7 I didn't try it as I never really needed the icons. It was pretty easy to tell which drive was which when a card was installed.

card reader drivers are supplied with OS, under USB mass storage device class. all you did was install the icons.

The manufacturer lists it as a driver. It installs under the driver tab in Device manager. It uses an inf file. I'd say it is a driver! I never said I needed it for the reader itself, just for the icons, but it is a driver!

its not a driver, inf file is called setup information file, it just points to system native USB mass storage components.

and then the actual device is installed from native reository located in C:\WINDOWS\inf

usbstor.inf is the USB mass storage driver.

all that inf that you mentions does it points the system to the usbstor.inf inf located in
C:\WINDOWS\inf.

reason why that works is very simple, file names have not changed between 32bit xp and 64bit 7.

if you open the driver details none of the actual dll (application extensions) will be 32bit. all will be standard native 64bit dlls.

the actual driver installed is not 32bit
