So let's hear the best excuse you have used/can think of for spending money that has got you past the hurdle of 'her (or him!) indoors'!

Anything from 'the dog ate it', to 'it fell overboard' (a genuine one from another thread on here that prompted the idea) etc etc.

This could become a POTN Service, any excuse used successfully costs a donation to Pekka

Lets hear them!

It was only $20 to have it painted white.
It's just the lens hood that makes it look bigger.
CF cards are cheap.
I took the silver stickers off, it's black underneath.
This one is a 2.8, not as good as the old one that was a 4.

The excuse I used recently was that it seemed silly to remortgage the house for so little money, it just made sense to borrow more...

I have bruises to show how successful it was...

It's easier to get forgiven than to ask for permission.

Ok, I'll just start spending my fun money at the bar.

I don't drink, smoke or do drugs.

Remember that problem we had with -describe the problem- look what this does.

Oh, I've always had that lens.

As I found out recently, though, pitching a hissy fit doesn't seem to work. Go figure. It always works for my niece.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

That's the 48 hour rule. If you buy something, leave it laying around in the open. If it goes unnoticed or not commented on, it's legal. I have used it in the past rather well when acquiring a new shotgun, as well as camera gear. I get the boxes and wrapping paper hidden right away.

I drive a kia, I shop at Walmart, I promise I won't make another purchase for atleast six months. This works because they never remember when exactly it was you made that promise... Sari.

What about single guys, we don't have to report to anybody except ourselves.

The best excuse to upgrade to 20D from the 300D was...a backup. A backup for what, I don't know. I don't even know where's the 300D now.

Trying the same trick to go for the 5D. So far, not much luck.

I'm single, but my girlfriend always rolls her eyes when new toys turn up! :)

I really had no good reason to buy my 70-200 IS, I made excuses around weddings (which are now true btw, I use it at every wedding). Most of my more recent purchases have been justified with "professionals need backup gear", which is true, and I did have one of my 20D's fail at a wedding, briefly.

My standard excuse is "h3ll, why not, you can afford it, and who needs a retirement fund".

My next purchase: dual core Athlon chip and upgrade from 1GB to 2GB memory. My excuse: it'll save post processing time.
