It's been a while since I've posted anything mostly because I've been recovering from leg surgery but I just shot my second event of the summer using 3 different bodies so I'll pass on that although I'm still learning the 7D it does seem to get the job done, even on fast paced action. I really HATE the AF display though & wish I could turn if off so that nothing shows except what I'm trying to track. Also from my observations it (the actual displayed point) can't seem to keep up with what the AF is actually tracking leading me to often think it's locked onto sky when in fact it is on the plane. As usual the 1Ds2 & 1D2n did fine, and the majority of the flight photos are from them.

All 4 albums from this event can be found at the front of my on line album page here.

Unfortunately the smoke in the background of this photo is where the jet in the first photo crashed after a flame out. It had a full load of fuel & burned until crew arrived with extinguishers.

No; those are all from 1 series bodies. I've taken a look at all the photos I shot using the 7D and any of the flying photos shot with it are of slow flying planes (the big Fokker d-VII's) but it did capture them very well. Because it was an important event plus my dislike of the AF display I went with what I knew worked because I wouldn't really get a chance to examine the images until home for the night. I have however dug up a few shots from a practice session for the other event I shot this summer using the 7D and here's some samples from a high speed pass (the owner says it does about 200 KPH) but keep in mind it's a big plane.

Thanks. It's a well run event so it draws a good variety of planes. Knowing that only a few will take the time to look at all the photos from the event I thought these might show just how far some go on the other part of the hobby.

And that goes in here.

Which is fully done on the outside with vinyl graphics showing all kinds of jets.

Strike me pink! Now THAT would be an expensive hobby!! Amazing. All terrific, but the first of the prop shots is stunning, I love it!

There's no doubt that some both have & spend big money on it, but it can also be done on a budget. I think one of the best parts of the hobby is that no matter how much they spend even the "little guy" gets the same respect as the "big guy" from everyone. They all share the same interest, and all of them can crash, and when they do they know everyone there took it badly. I'm a former builder / flier who started in that hobby when I was around 12 years old, and because of that I can talk to them & understand the passion, and luckily still enjoy their hobby as much as mine ( I have a few & none are cheap) plus combine their events with photography. If they didn't hold the events I'd have less to photograph, plus it's about the best panning practice I've found.
