Jon, I have pretty good distance vision, decent over all vision. In the last year, though, I've had to use my reading glasses more often for things like TV, reading, night driving. At times it's a little difficult for me to be absolutely sure I have something totally in focus when shooting.

So this lens idea--I can buy an extra diopter lens for my camera, is that what you're saying? And have it made to match my eye prescription? COuld the old original one be put back in if I sold the camera? This is intriguing!

Canon makes slip-on diopter adjustment lenses (external link) that go in place of your existing eyepiece cup (not the viewfinder proper). So the camera isn't modified at all; you just slip a little piece over the viewfinder eyepiece.

I have one of these slip-on diopter adjustment lenses as my eye sight is very poor, -5 in both eyes. Its a pain to flip my glasses out of the way to shot but is worth it for looking at a decent view, via the lense.

I used to use Nikon's DK-21M with my 350D as I used to shoot macros and also use manual focus lens. Have upgraded to a 7D and getting used to using live-view

You could also try a Canon Eyepiece Extender (reviewed at http://www.the-digital-picture.com …ender-EP-EX15-Review.aspx (external link) ). I have one on my 30D which really helps at times. Downside is that it is a reduced magnification of around 30%, but if you are wearing glasses then the eyerelief distance is greatly improved for keeping your glasses on

I may have to change up my diopter at some point soon as mine is at it's maximum adjustment .

I'm pretty good for far sighted vision ( although I know that's changing and not for the better ) but my near sighted is awful for reading or seeing anything small so when playing with camers settings I need my reading glasses to see what I'm doing or looking at instuctions and then to look through the viewfinder I have to take my glasses off.....it's a PITA !!

Don't you love what aging (gracefully ) does to you :( ...10-15 years ago my eyesite was sharp as a tack .

Hi mate,

Yep - I have to wear my glasses quite often now when shooting, and when one takes into account the slight magnification from my reading glasses coupled with the decreased magnification of the eyepiece extender, then I can see everything in the viewfinder really well! I have personally found that wearing glasses and looking into the stock viewfinder that my eye is now too far back to see the display at the bottom of the VF without repositioning my view into the VF. But with the extender - everything is in full view and as clear as a bell!!!

For the price of the extenders, they are certainly well worth at least getting one to see if it suits your style of shooting.

ken.

I don't think they make an eyepiece extender for the 7d, it's a sore point with 7d owners.
