I'm going to Rome for a short trip, but I heard about that there are a lot the pickpockets at the busy touristic places, so I want my gear to be safe and I don't want to be notices by a pickpocket as a ''real tourist'' :-P

So, now, I have a Lowepro Nova 170 AW, Fastpack 200 and a Crumpler MB 8000.. but I think it will be a bit too big since I'll mostly use my 50D + 17-70mm OS HSM most of the time ;)

So, my choice is to buy a bag like a Lowepro Toploader 50AW, which is less standing out.. :-P So, what would be your recommendations?

I'd get a smaller bag like a LowePro Exchange Messenger. I have one, and I like it a lot.... small enough to pack easily in my travel luggage, but it is roomy enough to carry a body with lens attached, plus another lens and flash. The messenger styling is inconspicuous too.

Recently went to Rome and took a Kata DT213 as a carry around bag. Comfortable and gives goos protection

methinks regardless of whatever bag you carry, pro's out there knows by the look/shape of bag, what you have in there...

i carry my timbuk2 messenger with a padded insert...

even a non-pickpocketing nub like me can spot camera bags a mile away...

best is to be alert and attentive...

for pickpockets, i carry zip ties in my bags to tie em up... but then again, i've lost 300 euros right out of my pant pockets... lol...

never put it down and unattended.
never sling your bag on backs of chairs while having the world's best cup of cappuccino...

have fun...
