Purple fringing with my 135L - need help

Been using this lens for a month, I noticed some shots coupled with purple fringing yesterday and it caught my attention ever since.
I need help from you guys, as I'm not sure its because I was using f/2.0 in all shots. Has anyone tried to shoot anything other than portraits at f/2.0??

This is the first picture which caught my attention about purple fringing with my 1 month old lens. As you can see, the sky is overexposed, but I'm not sure this was the reason for the purple fringing. (All images are straight out from camera, converted from RAW to jPeg, set quality 100% in LR3)

what did you expect? It's a F2 lens.

As I said, I was asking if f/2.0 and overexposure is the main cause of purple fringing. And do people get this kind of fringing at f/2.0 especially with 135L. Thanks I appreciate your answer but it isn't helpful.

No this is no lemon and completely normal. Stop down and it'll be gone.

That is normal for the 135L. I saw it too in NYC. Making sure you don't blow anything out is good. Also, you have to pixel peep to see it. On my 85/1.8 it was so apparent you could see it during web sized photos.

Stop it down. Or in lightroom drop the magenta or purple slider down a little bit.

I just got the 135L as well, and yes, there is CA wide open, especially when you shoot a high contrast edge. Your first photo, you have something dark against a completely blown out background, and you're shooting completely wide open. It's not a lens problem, it's a user (exposure) problem.

Thanks, and yeah I noticed the sky too.. I was shooting some random people using f/2.0 and I forgot to stop it down when shooting the streetcar. When I got home i thought I'm holding a lemon.

Ditto.

It's called longitudinal CA (LoCA) and it's really hard to avoid on fast primes...my Sigma 50 1.4 has LoCA like crazy, but like said, once you stop down it's gone.

That's poor IQ .. a well tuned 135 will show ZERO CA or purple fringing of any kind in any lighting, even strong backlighting or high contrast. I posted some CA free samples here some weeks ago taken in severe lighting. I've taken tens of thousands of files with that lens and only see CA on those where I've missed focus .. if focus is on there is zero CA or PF.

Send it in for adjustment, it's worth the trouble.

Just out of curiosity, can you link to the files? In any case, he noticed CA on what seems to only be OOF transitions between extreme light and dark. At least, that was my impression.

It happens! I think the general problem is that it's somewhat difficult to make a super-fast prime that doesn't have CA, especially at hard transitions.

IDK, I only shot my 135 wide open, and I've never had CA anything close to that. I've honestly never noticed any CA at all. My 85 1.8 had noticeble CA wide open.

Worst case I just send it in since it still has 11 months warranty.

Mine shows about the same amount of CA at f/2. It's still better than my 85L at f/1.2, which in turn is better than the 85/1.8 I used to have.
