I'm looking for a portable & lightweight carbon tripod in the $300 range. I saw the Feisol on eBay, the 3442S model, but the folded length is 48cm!
My primary use will be for hiking and traveling, sunset shots, e.t.c., and I would prefer something lightweight and very portable when folded.

As for ball head, I'm planning to get Markins M10Q W/RSS Clamp.

Any suggestions for a tripod?

There is the 3441s which has a folded length of 43cm. Any shorter than that in a decent tripod is going to be hard to find, imo.

A better match for that tripod would be the Q3, imo. That way, the legs can be folded back over the head, maintaining the 43cm collapsed length.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I'm looking at the 3441s right now. Do you think Q3 would be able to hold 5D2 + 70-200 f/2.8 telephoto?

I'm also looking at the CB-30C ball head by Feisol. It's small, but looks similar to Q3, and I can get both for $440

There is the Benro C-069M8 (external link), C-169M8 (external link) or C-269M8 (external link) they're all in the 35cm folded length category, and light too.

The feisol 3441 is awesome. Do not hesitate to buy it. Light and folds up small. I would find a ballhead that fits inside the legs folded up. I have the markins made for the benro travel angel. Works great.

I would be more inclined to buy a Photo Clam, if you do not want to sopend the money on a Markins, only because there seems to be more experience with those heads, here, and I recall the general concensus is that they are good heads.

You should contact reallybigcameras and ask for their advice in matching a Photo Clam to a Feisol. They are very helpful.

Easily.

Have you seen this thread: -=FAQ=- Tripods, Monopods, Heads & Support - START HERE

Has a review of the mentioned Feisol.
There's also a review of the Q3 in there.

I just bought this Induro (external link) from Amazon. Not bad for $132. Actually, it's a steal.

Since Bing is ending today, I'm down to either: 3441s w/Markins Q3, or GT-1541T w/Q3. I think I'll have to spend some more money, as tripod will serve me for the next 20 years, vs. having to buy another one down the road. Looks like there's a consensus here that both: feisol 3441 & gitzo 1541t are great.
