Hi there

I transfered all my photos on my laptop to the HDD ext drive . But now I cannot search it by tags that i inserted ( which works while on my desktop)
Also tells me that my Ext HDD is not indexed.

Any idea what i should do so that i can search the tags of all the thousands of photos in the ext HDD. Is this a feature i need to turn on or something ?

Thanks muhc

You need to give us more info.

What operating system?
Tags in what program?
What tells you that it's not indexed?

etc.

I am really so sorry

Windows7
I just transfered all my desktop picutre folder into the ext HDD
I tagged it with windows 7 tagging function ( all the JPEGs)
There is a small box to tell me searches can be slow in non indexed locations ( ie the ext HDD)
The options are
1. add to index
2. modify index locations

Do you think may be i should index this ext HDD, then may be i can perform tag searches?

I just did a quick test and it would appear the tags are stored in the files, but you should check them just to be sure.

One option is this:
In a Windows Explorer window, click on "organize" and then "folder and search options." Then in the "search" tab you can tell the computer to "always search file names and contents." Good for the short term if you want, but all searches (everywhere) will take longer).

What you should do is simply index the drive. In the search box (start menu) search "index" and then click on "Indexing Options." Click "Modify" and then choose the external hard drive, check the box next to it, and click "Okay."

Let it sit for a while to index the drive and then searching should work.

Hi everyone

Here is my dilemma. I have all my photos on my external HDD tagged. I indexed it using windows7. My OS is windows 7.

How do i search my photos by tags.
I cannot seem to do this. It only searches my titles of the photos.

I can however, search the photos by tags if they are actually on the C drive itself.

Thanks so much for helping out.

You might consider dropping all your pictures into individually-named folders,
such as I do. I keep them on internal and external drives, and it's very easy
for me to find them after a shoot, especially as I name the folders after the
event or shoot I was attending.

Your tag method sounds rather confusing to me, as I actually name my folders
after the event/day/function they contain.

Yeah, sounds like you just need to add the drive to the index. No big deal.
