Any specific issues to check for with this lens when purchasing? I'm buying through Amazon so I have a solid return policy if any issues crop up.

Here's a long exposure shot looking out over Fajita Butte in Chaco Canyon. This was shot at ISO 6400 and 25 seconds. A little noisy, and a little cloudy, but I like it ;)

You are going to be a happy camper when you get the 5D3! 14 on FF is a lot of fun.

Yeah, thanks mate. The wife had hidden it in the walk in robe along with a 70-300L...............a retirement present for 31st Aug. She's been at home all week on vacation, so I haven't had a chance to get a sneak preview...............Santa is coming early!

The ol' "brick wall" test will tell a lot. The lens should be pretty sharp, wide open, even out to the corners, and should not improve significantly as you stop down.

I had 2 poor copies, one which was very "soft focus" when wide open, and improved somewhat as it stopped down, the other was sharp in the center, but OOF and distorted on the left-side of the frame, the right side was OK.

Provided you're not an obsessive pixel-peeper, if it looks great across the whole frame, you've probably got a good copy. If you think something's not right, you're probably right.

Hope that helps at least a little bit...

I've purchased two copies of this lens and haven't had an issue yet. It was my understanding that the previous versions when it was first released had a few quirks but you have nothing to worry about when purchasing from Amazon. Just don't believe the distance scale as it's far from off. My infinity focusing was at 3M, according to the scale. There is a youtube video if you want to calibrate the hard-stop infinity which I find incredibly useful since I shoot a lot in the dark. Just rotate it until it stops and them I'm good to shoot.

Babak: Those are some quite different milky ways.
Different is always good but still a bit over sharp for my taste.
Any chance you took these images in Big Bear?

YipDog: That is great.
You have little bit of everything.
One of those images that the more you look, the more you see.
Any more from the same night?
