There is a fairly easy way to fix the distance scale so that you don't have to make your own markings. My worked out of the box, so I never had to try this, but here is a video that shows how to do it:

Well, I was brave and had a go myself aaannnd.... I think it focuses better now After several trial and error attempts though haha

Testing this lens. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong at night shots. All the shots under 500 ISO are dark'ish? doesn't matter if it's 20 sec / 30 sec shutter speed.

I would say you are just way underexposed.
Try larger aperture like f4-f8.
Try upping ISO to something like 1600-6400.
Or use bulb shutter release and let shutter be open for a few minutes.

Play with those settings and i think you will figure it out.

I cant use this lens on manual mode live view on my 6D. Tried it briefly, and would only get a black screen, however, it works fine on AV mode.

set your ISO to whatever (or Auto), and aperture on lens, and camera figures out the shutter speed needed.

I think that'll do. I didn't experiment much since I had to go eat. Test it on brother's kids.. It's tack sharp! Thanks

P.s: Regarding the lens profile thingy, I chose Canon's 14mm and it kind of worked. Distortion's gone.
