Samyang Rokinon Vivitar 14 2.8 lens

try at 5.6 and put the focus in infinity.

Don't have any photos taken with the lens yet but here is a photo of the lens (taken with 85 1.8)

Can I find this lens new with AF Chip included/installed?
How hard is it to install the AF Chip? Is there a AF Chip install instructions for Dummies?
I want to add this lens with the chip. Thanks.

I bought the lens and chip separately, didn't see anywhere selling it pre installed. I haven't received the chip yet so can't comment on ease of installation just yet but from what I gather it's a bit footery

Let us know what you think. I read somewhere you need to shim it.

I'll let you know how it goes. I read/skimmed every page in this thread today, early on someone said you had to shim it with a bit of old credit card but further on in the thread someone else installed and said no shimming was required so hopefully it's not needed. I'm not too bothered about AF confirm I just want my 5D2 to know the aperture so that it meters correctly (as you will be sick of hearing ). I use magic lantern so get focus peaking anyway

Some people buy a Nikon mount version and then use Nikon to EF adapter that includes a chip: http://www.ebay.com …irm+chip+Adapte​r&_sacat=0

Another thing to mention is that you really don't want to put infinity right dab in the middle, that only tosses away precious depth of field. You want to set infinity on the outer most focus line corresponding to what aperture you're using. Like for 5.6 set infinity to the right hand side mark( or on some lenses it will be on the left hand side)


Like say using this 28mm example, If I set the focus to infinity at 5.6 I will only have approx 4 meters to infinity in focus

That's ok if you have an aperture scale, if not hyperfocal distance setting is best (my rokinon doesn't have aperture scale like in your photo)

Yeah but ML doesn't work if you are looking through the viewfinder.
