honestly I'm not sure. i JUST got the 16-35. the Rok is so cheap that i'm just going to keep it. that shot above is my sharpest shot out of the lens, so it is sharp, my problem is getting the focus dialed in. i've gotten a lot of soft shots purely because of user error, by no fault of the lens. i just needed something wide with autofocus so if i don't have time to setup for the shot i won't miss it.

i also got the 16-35 to replace the 35/1.4 i had. carry one lens instead of two.

I'm feeling inspired after seeing a fellow photographer successfully use a (different) UWA for portraits at a modeling event with my local photo club.

I'm gonna try using it on my full-frame for some portraiture this weekend. Wish me luck!

When doing night sky photography, what is the max exposure time this lens allows without producing star trails? 30 secs?

I haven't had time to try it yet, but I did read here that it's closer to 15 seconds @ f/2.8. There must be a chart somewhere.

Going by the 500 rule of thumb its 35 seconds. Some people prefer the 400 rule which equates to 28 seconds. (400/focal length). I try and stick to 25 secs but have used 30 without noticeable trails

Good luck for portraits with the Samyang 14mm! And if you want bigger noses, try a fisheye...

I got very slight disturbance in stars when doing 30sec, it could be trails, it could be a little shake of the tripod.

Full frame? I noticed trails forming at 30 seconds. At 25 seconds it's there but not too bad. At 20 seconds you're good to go. I've found that for 30 second exposures I need the fisheye.

That's got to be rotation and not shake. Look at the left side and compare it to the right side.

Good point, I was facing west/southwest so it makes sense that the north side of the frame shows less movement.

So there you have it.. 30 seconds shows trails (if you pixel-peep)

Depends on your latitude too.

I have had 44 seconds without visible trails on 5d2
