Thanks for the response Charlie!

Ok then how in the world does anyone do night photography especially stars/ milky way??? I mean I can barely see a thing in live view and that's the only way I can think of to accurately focus it.

Yah....I'm frustrated.

Lol! I told you!I'll be going out again at the end of August, when I'm back from vacation...I'll definitely contact you, if you're interested...In the meantime, this link was amazingly helpful!!!

But I'd like to be able to see what the camera is pointing at.

Paul,

As has been said, focus shouldn't be that big of a deal.

But to see framing, I just crank up the ISO, frame my view, reset ISO to taste, and fire away. Chimp to be sure...

BTW, some bodies don't like to give accurate live view with manual lenses in manual mode. You might have to switch over to aperture priority. You can always switch back to manual to actually take the photo.

Or you might try switching to movie mode - live view has been known to report differently there, too. But that may just be an ISO trick, I'm not sure.

Again, switch back to your mode of choice to take your photos.

Let me know if any of these these work for you.

Good luck.

Just my 2¢

bulb is another trick to boost live view display, if it's not doing it correctly.

Thanks for the link again Lisa. Looks like its infinity focus for me forever and rely on the hyper focal distance.

Thank you! You are correct Av mode some how brightens up the live view picture... incidentally so does bulb mode.

When i switch back over to manual mode to adjust my shutter speed the lcd goes black. I just look at the meter reading, adjust my SS, and blindly shoot.

Yikes!

Glad that'll work out for you.

I don't use bulb at night much. Usually trying to keep the stars from streaking... Gotta remember that one, too - thanks Charlie.

much higher ISO

yeah, exactly, there is the golden rule.
1 second @ 6400 is the same of 1 minute @ 100iso.
or similarly u can calculate 1 sec @ 102K is just like 15" @ 6400.
depending from the camera, guys, you can create ur own routine :)

Well, sometimes i feel i am not good at photography but i never give up trying and testing and experimenting, and sometimes i feel idiot or stupid asking people without me trying first, but at the end i know it is the joy of photography and we share/learn from each other, so i do what i can do, ask, read, watch, and i keep going.

...lol - thanks - most definitely worth the wait - so enjoying getting to know this lens. Such a different perspective from what I've been used to. Was a bit concerned with the MF - but after reading so much here, and testing a few of the recommended settings - it's really a non-issue.
