Shot this (Contemplation (external link)) a while back at dawn with the 50D and 18-50.

Felt the light was perfect as it was low enough not to overpower the scene but enough to light the details

I would be interested in anyone's comments though about how I could have improved it.

Edit - wrong link

I like it. I wish the person was larger in the composition, but it still works to convey your theme of "contemplation". Very nice BW conversion.

As Winnie the Pooh said, "sometimes I sit and think. Sometimes I just sit"

I like the image.

One thing it lacks is a good sense of depth, as the background is all but hidden, and most of the near foreground is in shadow - what is visible is close to the base of the pillars anyway. That doesn't really offer anywhere for the eye to move. It's almost an "edge of the world" pic, but doesn't quite work as that either. Low clouds draw the eye to an area without further detail to satisfy curiousity. All up, I find it hard to enjoy compositionally, or find interest in - so you're stuck at 2 of 3 "I like [It]"s to far - pretty good rate :-).

Cheers,
Tony

Good idea for the shot. If only there was a way for the viewer's eye to be drawn to the subject a little easier.

My home town! (quite surprising to see, here in the US).

Given that, as it (Edinburgh's Disgrace) is always good to see, I'm slightly in that "sense of depth missing" camp. And there is an odd sensation of it 'rising' towards the right (or is that just me?).

It is a nice shot though. A bit 'more' in the sky and a slightly off-centre angle (to show this structure's oddity) would've been 'better' but... it is a nice shot!
