Innovatronix just announced that there is a US service center for all Explorer portable batteries. This covers the original Explorer 1200, the Explorer XT and the newer XT SE.

This service is being handled by Southern Photo Technical Services.

and the contact info is here:

They're located in Florida and the addition of this US support is a clear indication that sales are not only good but growing in the US and the Explorer batteries are gaining popularity.

Has he tested it for multiple BXRi's yet, Rob? I don't really care for other digital, multi-voltage strobes. I want to know what happened when we tested mine and if they have the answer to that.

Not sure what you mean Sean. We've determined that the SE is all about handling the bi-voltage power supply and the way power is handled with regard to the dips when recycling.

It's also been confirmed that the SE was designed to address that issue but was not specifically designed to work with multiple bi-voltage strobes totaling more than about 400 Watt seconds.

I know that people will jump up and say that the Vagabond II does work with multiple bi-voltage strobes but I'm not at all convinced that it's handling the power correctly, so regardless of whether it's working without any glitches, I don't feel confident that the VII is properly managing the power and the extreme dips and the ramp-up in voltage.

To the best of my knowledge, this is how things are with Innovatronix until such time that they develop another battery or implement other technologies.

Glenn is aware that we've tested multiple 500BXRi's and the results and that is why they are very careful about stating compatibility and the number of strobes.

Right. I'm wondering if he knows now about those issues we found and if he has plans on finding a solution to it with, let's say, the next version of the Explorer?

I don't have any inside information but I can draw some conclusions based on what I've heard and been told.

The only way to have an Explorer that can properly handle multiple bi-voltage strobes is to engineer and build another unit. It's not a mod that can be done.. It would be a larger and heavier unit. The cost would also go up and would involve having new components built, etc. They're not going to do that.

With the current technology and their product line, the answer (not a great one, I know) is to either not use bi-voltage strobes and the problem goes away, or use an XT SE for each light.

There is so much new battery technology happening and the trend is not going to be towards better and more powerful SLA batteries with inverters. Technology is moving in the direction of smaller, lighter, dry cell technoloy and we're already seeing changes in laptop batteries and in other devices.

I have a feeling (again, no inside information at all) that the next batteries we see from Innovatronix are going to be quite different from the Explorer's.

This is great news! Next theyll start keeping stock in the US and then shipping costs for consumers will go down! Big step for them and a smart move! Establish a presence in the USA!
