I don't frequent CL enough to know if these kinds of postings are common but isn't this kind of slanderous? Can anybody single out anyone by name and say whatever they want about them?

CL is kind of the wild west. You can pretty much post anything you want and then wait for someone to flag you or report you. Even stuff that wildly violates the rules can stay up for a while depending on how quickly it gets noticed.

There was an article I read a short time ago that prospective employers are searching applicants social networking sites for an "insight" into their background. Be careful what you put online. People are watching.

This is, in fact very common. Social media awareness is a must for most at this point, and this photographer is no exception.

I wonder how the CL poster was connected to the photographer with a bottle of Skele-Gro (Harry Potter reference)? It sounds like he might have been a second shooter that was made to take sole responsibility for shots and is feeling that he didn't deliver. Just curious...

it's only illegal if it's false. You can put out any true information you want.

edit: been reading older threads and didn't realize this was so old. sorry for the bump

I'm glad you did, as this is a point that always needs to be emphasized. BE CAREFUL what you put online, people. Obviously the photog was in the wrong in this situation. He cheated the couple (and apparently others as well). However, The internet has become *the* mainstream source of information and advertising used by engaged couples on their search to find vendors for their wedding.

Be aware of your online presence and acknowledge how easy it is to be made or broken.

And, of course, be aware that this is the internet - which is this world-wide thing - and advice like this is clearly incorrect in some locations.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
