Well, I for one won't be waiting to buy one.

It's an idea of how they might be able to develop a point and shoot in the next two decades. the good points seem to be that it can take a shot with everything in the frame in focus (Gee, great, that's exactly the opposite of what I want from a camera but may be handy for macro shooting). The other thing is point it at a large crowd of people and it will take a whole bunch of portrait shots, waiting for each person to smile before it takes the snap. Again, wow! lots of pictures of smiling faces with no creative input from the photographer (using the term loosely).

It may be great for snapshooters, but I'll stick to conventional techniques thanks and use shallow DoF for subject separation and take the shot when I want, to capture the critical moment, rather than letting the camera decide because the subject smiles.

Radical concept cameras have come and gone in the past, the few that have eventually seen production in some form have generally been a dismal failure. This is simply a way of showing how technology may go, and some of those features may be fitted to mainstream cameras in the future. I have used a camera with smile detection and it just pi**ed me off as I tried to catch a great expression and the camera refused to fire until it saw a cheesy grin.

Forget the gimmicks, I just want a camera that allows the user full control and has great IQ.
