After doing extensive reading on here and comparing the different tripods and heads, I've come down to the popular 190XPROB w/488/498RC2 ball head.

I just want to confirm that this is a good decision. The reason that I chose the 190XPROB over the 055XPROB is because I am shorter (5'6-5'7). I imagine the 190XPROB would be more comfortable for my height? I understand that the 055XPROB will support a heavier weight (and I don't mind spending a few dollars more) but will it be ideal for someone shorter?

Thanks for your help.

You don't have to extend the legs all the way - just set them to the height that is the most comfortable for you.

^ Ah I see, so I might just go with the sturdier 055XPROB if that is the case. I want this to last me for a LONG time.

Thanks for the response! :p

if weight is not an issue, go with the XPROB on either 190/055. If you want to save some weight, get the CXPRO line. You will be paying a premium for CF though.

Also if you looking at having a tripod that would last you along time, consider getting an arca-swiss type ballhead. I've have read that the 488/498 do have some creep in them. You will be paying more for more high quality ballhead though.
