Hey guys-
My shutter just went out on my canon 1dmk2n and was sent out to virginia (canon) to have the shutter replaced. I paid the hefty price and had it fixed and brought all back up to original standards. I am deciding if i want to keep it now (seeing as there are ZERO clicks on it now) or selling it and upgrading to a 1dmk3.

why you say?

well here's what I am thinking. the 1dmk2n does EVERYTHING i want it to, EXCEPT perform well at 1600 /3200. Primarily I shoot automotive work and portraits, though I have a few weddings lined up next year as well as assisting in a few more this year. The 1dmk3 would do everything the 1dmk2n would do, AND handle the high iso better. the thing i don't like about the 1dmk3 would be the AF issues, that it would have 80k clicks or so (not zero), and the 19 usable AF versus the 1dmk2n 45's. I could always keep the 1dmk2n and get a 5d classic for the few weddings...The profit from 1 solo wedding would pay for the upgrade from the 2n to the 3 also...or a 5dc.

What are you guys thinking? Keep it? Sell it and upgrade now while there are zero clicks? What's a fair price? Thanks for anyone that can chip in and help out.

Keep it and add a 5Dc. Having an extra body, especially while doing weddings, is a good thing.

How much did the shutter replacement set you back?

I'd keep it. Maybe at some point get the 1D3 to see how you like it and then sell one of them. The 1D3s are going pretty cheap. I bought mine used last year (USA Today trade in) with knowledge of the AF issues, sent to Canon for the fix and been kicking butt ever since.

Yes and as one person put it; you will have a lifetime warranty with the 1D3.

Yes, Canon will honor the recall even if you are not the original owner and the warranty is expired.

interesting...and im assuming the mk3 is going to do better high iso than the 5dc. plus i won't have to worry about switching focal lengths per body.
