Holy crap!!!

Do you have some more 2xs? Can you stack a couple more and locate one of those astronauts chilling out on the ISS' patio? ;)

I tried stacking 16x worth of TCs on the Sigmonster once to film Jupiter. The 12.8 meter combo looked like this, except that a 5D2 was used instead of a 350D.

And here's the footage of Jupiter:

I think I actually got a bit more detail on a recent shot - the grid on a thermal radiator starts to be noticeable.

And the originally posted photo for comparison:

Wow.. I thought it couldn't get any better than the first shot :)

That 12.8 meter thingy is impressive. Any longer, you will need a second tripod at the camera end and possibly hire cab to go to the focus ring

Those were from the lens mount a Canon 2x II + Sigma 2x + Sigma 1.4x + Tamron 2x + Tamron 1.4x = 16x total.

I still had a Canon 1.4x II but I couldn't find a way to fit it in, it could've been 22.6x or about 18 meters focal length. Not sure if a 12 mm ET would eliminate infinity focus. The extra stop of light lost from 16x to 22.6x is immaterial anyway, as 16x is already too dark and seemed impassable to photons to start with. :)

Really how bad is this 12000mm? I cant wrap my head around it. How far would it reach if you were to shoot, say a (a very very co-operative) bird or something really really bright and stationary, on earth?

See relative magnifications using similar sensor sizes (all are uncropped FF, just resized):

20D + 50 mm

350D + 800 mm

350D+ 12,800 mm, f/128, 1/20 sec, ISO 1600 (the darkening at extreme right is an out of focus antenna cable.)

First I was amazed.
Then I was laughing because I thought it was a joke.
The I was amazed again.
The 12.8m Sigmonster is sick... but it is just gear. If you have the money you buy it and that is it, but to have the ability to work with it with your skill, now THAT is impressive.
I am a great fan of your work.

Lol.... that's close enough..... it was f/91 at 12.8 meters wide open. I did stop down to f/128 to "improve" IQ. :)
