RAM ?

I have a HP Zd 7030 laptop with 1gb of ram. Wanting to add another gb. Is ram made by different companies equal ?

Just stay away from the cheap junk, and you should be ok. Kingston, Corsair, Crucial are all good companies.

Chances are, your laptop has 2x512 SO-DIMMs. You might have to remove one and put in a single stick of 1024, giving you an effective 1.5GB.

I'm finding 1Gb is enough for me, I find photoshop to be CPU limited more than RAM.

Well, i dunno about that really. If you set photoshop to use 100% memory, it loads up DRASTCIALLY faster than if you leave it at the default 60%. So I'd say RAM does play a big role.

You can do it in PSE 3.0
Open Editor
Go to Edit
Preferences
Memory and Image Cache...........

Change to the settings you want
Click "OK"

DONE!

Yup, that should do it. Although, i'm sure the amount of RAM you have is probably gonna determine how much faster the load up time is. I have 2 gigs of pc3200, so CS2 opens up in about 4 seconds for me.
